Travel Onsite Clinical Documentation Integrity Specialist


Under the direction of the Director, the Clinical Documentation Improvement Manager is responsible for managing, coordinating, and performing day-to-day operations to include personnel management, education, training, productivity, work assignments, quality reviews, and report management for the Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI) program. Facilitates and promotes standardization across the enterprise and ensures alignment of high-quality documentation that supports a compliant and accurate representation of the clinical care provided to patients. Acts as a liaison for hospital/medical staff in all areas related to clinical documentation improvement.


Job Responsibilities


· Manages CDI department personnel and operations to include personnel management, education, training, workflow analysis, productivity, quality, and report management to ensure achievement of departmental goals and objectives.

· Facilitates appropriate clinical documentation reviews to support accurate assignment of diagnoses and procedure codes, severity of illness, risk of mortality, MCC/CC capture, appropriate POA assignment, PSI, HAC, and provider queries.

· Performs and/or monitors quality reviews to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, accreditation standards, and industry best practices.

· Collaboratively works with coding, quality, care management, physician champions, and other key stakeholders to improve clinical documentation.

· Conducts data and root cause analysis and communicates clinical documentation opportunities and/or concerns to key stakeholders in a timely and effective manner.

· Contributes to CDI strategic planning and process improvement activities.

· Integrates Model (CCIM) and tools into daily operations to drive best practices and outcomes (i.e., huddles, visual management tools, 4-blocker, return to green plan, A3, etc.).

· Working with their director, reviews, revises, and/or implements departmental policies, procedures and/or guidelines.

· Monitor's achievement of CDI key performance indicators and initiates and executes action plans as appropriate.

· Other duties as assigned.


Minimum Education and/or Experience Required: (Education Requirements and Experience):


· Graduate of a National League of Nursing (NLN) or Commission of Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) accredited Master of Nursing program and licensed in the appropriate state.

· Minimum of five years' Management experience as CDI Leader

· Demonstrated leadership skills/ability as well as project management skills.

· Requires the ability to coordinate/manage multiple projects and activities in a changing environment.

· Excellent communication, problem-solving and decision-making skills.

· Relevant experience includes lead roles, project/committee leadership, and/or supervisor experience.

Additional Experience and/or Qualifications:

· Computer experience in Word, Excel, Powerpoint. EPIC, Cerner, 3M, 3M 360

· Previous experience with external accrediting bodies (e.g., NCQA, JCAHO) helpful.

· Previous supervisory experience a must. Master's degree in nursing administration, healthcare administration, business preferred.

· Knowledge of Medicare and Medicaid guidelines helpful.

· Understanding of managed care and commercial review experience.

· Experience in developing and implementing new processes, products, services, or business lines helpful.



  • ICD-10 coding and CDI training
  • One year or more CDI experience or two years or more of inpatient coding experience.


 Licensure/Certification Required:

  • If RN, NP or Foreign Medical Graduate, Emergency Department or Intensive Care Unit experience with ICD-10 training is required.
  • Licensed Registered Nurse, Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant, MD graduate/educated in foreign country, RHIA, RHIT or CCS.
  • CCDS and or CDIP Required.



· Salary Range: $125,000 to 135,000 per year
